How Otterly Brilliant Academy Was Born
Otterly Brilliant Academy (OBA) was founded by Dr. Dewhanne Nyivih with a clear vision: to provide the individualized support that many students need but often don't receive in traditional school settings. Over her 15+ years as an educator, Dr. Nyivih witnessed a common truth: while public schools work diligently to serve a diverse range of learners, large class sizes, limited resources, and competing priorities leave some students without the attention and guidance they require. As a result, bright and capable students often fall through the cracks—not due to a lack of potential, but because they need tailored instruction that honors their unique learning styles, emotional needs, and personal goals.
Families were actively searching for academic help, meaningful social-emotional learning (SEL) support, and pathways to higher achievement, but these services were not always easily accessible. Recognizing this gap, Dr. Nyivih founded OBA as a boutique, student-centered academy designed to fill these gaps with compassion, intention, and excellence.
